R&A’s Top 10 Netflix Shows Of 2016

One of our favorite things in the world is to cuddle up on the couch and watch Netflix together. There’s always a bowl of popcorn. And Mia is always there begging because popcorn is her absolute favorite snack! Yes, she’s spoiled!

We have always been careful to make sure we are out and about being active in life. So we don’t spend a lot of time in front of the tv. In fact, we have never had cable. For one, it’s just too expensive! And for another, we wouldn’t have the will power to ever get up and do anything else!!!

So for us, Netflix is the perfect solution!

And when we are watching Netflix, we generally gravitate towards shows rather than movies. We like the idea of being able to site down and watch a few episodes at a time. Although, we will admit to binging every once in a while!!!

So, for your viewing pleasure, here is the official Ryan & Alyssa Top 10 Netflix Shows of 2016! (Go here to see the list from 2015!) In order to make this list, it has to be a show that we watched or are still watching this year. *Note: these shows are, or were at one time this year, available on Netflix. We can’t guarantee that they are still there now!*

Person of Interest

We love a good crime drama. And Person of Interest fits that bill. It has the suspense. It has the intrigue. And of course, it has the good guys winning. What else do you need?! Person of Interest is one of Alyssa’s picks for this list. Ryan likes it too, but Alyssa made the push for it to make the list. Don’t worry, Ryan’s are coming! If you’ve never seen POI, you need to add it to your list!

We will give each show a distinguished award. And we are awarding POI “Crime Drama of the Year.”

Cutthroat Kitchen

Ahhhhhhh Cutthroat Kitchen. How you have captivated us! We love this show! This is a cooking show. 4 contestants cook dishes round by round until one is left standing. The catch? They each get money to spend on certain…devilish devices to use on their opponents during the round! For example, they can bid on the opportunity to take away one competitor’s cooking utensils and replace them all with tin foil. It’s fun to watch!

If you like cooking shows, this is the one for you! We are granting Cutthroat Kitchen “Top Cooking Show 2016.” An honor taken home last year by Cake Boss.

The Sixties/The Seventies

These are technically two different titles, but they are along the same theme so we put them together. Ryan loves documentaries! And these two documentary series lay out the history of the 1960s and 1970s. It was a tumultuous time to be sure. To be honest, we just didn’t really feel like we had a good grasp on the events that happened during that time or in what order they happened. And these two docs will solve that problem for you!

The Sixties/The Seventies are getting the “How Did We Get Here Award.” They will be very pleased with that outcome, no doubt.

Property Brothers

We looooove Property Brothers! There are so many home improvement shows out there. But, for us, Property Brothers is the best!

We love the interaction between the two brothers as they help a client find a fixer-upper and turn it into their dream home. It’s funny, sometimes dramatic and always finishes with a bang!

For our money, this one is a keeper. And today, we are awarding Property Brothers with the “Feel-Good Show of the Year Award” That’s one of the most highly coveted awards!

Daredevil

We are all about some action heroes! Last year, Arrow won “Top Action Show of the Year” and for good reason. But this year, we have a new winner!

Daredevil is an action show if there ever was one. If you’re into fighting, well then this is your show. We weren’t sure how good it was going to be at first, but it turned out to be great!

It definitely made our list for this year. If you’ve never seen it, check it out! Daredevil gets the “Top Action Show of the Year Award.”

All of ESPN’s 30 for 30’s

Well, we told you before that Ryan’s personal choices were coming. And here we are! Ryan loves sports. And he has never ever seen one of ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentaries that he didn’t like. Not one. And while he had seen them before this year, he discovered a lot of them on Netflix this year so it makes the list!

Some of his favorites are “Fantastic Lies,” “Survive and Advance,” and “Believeland.” 30 for 30 is getting the “It’s Bigger Than Sports Award” because so many of these docs show that there is so much more going on that what’s happening on the field of play!

Last Man Standing

Last Man Standing is one of our favorite comedies this year! It’s clean. It’s hilarious. And it’s Tim Allen! How could you go wrong?! The basic premise is that Mike Baxter has a wife and 3 daughters. Thus, he’s the last man standing. And he is a conservative guy in a progressive America trying to hold the line as a “man’s man.” That probably made it sound serious, but it’s really quite a funny show! Give it a try!

Last Man Standing received “Top Comedy Of The Year Award” honors. That award was believed to be going to Friends or The Office by a lot of the pundits so this is an unexpected win for Last Man Standing.

Prison Break

Ryan watched this show a while ago, but Alyssa had never seen it. So we started it! We could never ever watch just one episode! And although we believe that the first season is the best one, the other 3 seasons are exciting as well!

This may not be our all-time favorite show in this list, but the powerful cliff-hangers helped it make the cut this year.

Prison Break gets the “Never-Ending Cliff-Hanger Award” for being the show that always left us wanting! They will be pleased with that win!

The Crown

Some friends recently told us that this was a great show. We can’t give this a full review yet because we are just getting started! But The Crown may be good enough to make the list next year too!

But what we can say is that The Crown is worth your time! It’s very well-made! And we are usually wary of Netflix Originals. But this one, so far, seems to be excellent!

The Crown gets the “Up-And-Comer Award” and we will see what happens next! They will be looking for a return visit to the 2017 list!

Fixer-Upper

Yes, again we are back with another home improvement show. And similar to Property Brothers above, we love it because of the people. Chip and Joanna are awesome! We will admit that this falls under the category of an Alyssa show more than a Ryan show. But Ryan secretly enjoys it too.

If you’re looking for a show that has fun, faith, family and…no that’s it. It’s a great one! Fixer-Upper has earned the “Best Home Improvement Show Award,” one of the most highly sought-after awards in the construction and design industry, narrowly edging Property Brothers.

Honorable Mention: Designated Survivor

Ok so Designated survivor is an excellent show. However, it’s not on Netflix because it’s airing now! We are able to watch it on abc.com the next day after it airs. We don’t watch shows that are currently airing very often, but after we watched the first episode of Designated Survivor, we knew we were hooked!

If you haven’t seen Designated Survivor, you need to!!!

Designated Survivor is getting this year’s “So Close And Yet So Far Award.” If it was on Netflix it would’ve made the official list for sure!

Well guys that wraps our top 10 Netflix TV shows for 2016! If you’re looking for a new show, take your pick! These are all excellent choices! So find the one you love, cuddle up on the couch and get started. And don’t forget the popcorn!

Happy watching.
