We preach over and over to ourselves and to our future brides through our blog, “Have a rain plan. Have a backup plan. Don’t expect everything to work perfectly.” And when we are prepared for the possibility of rain and our brides are prepared, that is a really good combination! Rain is a fact of life. It’s not evil (although sometimes we think it might be out to get us). If you are a farmer, you need it. But when you are a bride, you really hope and pray it doesn’t rain on your big day. And so having a backup plan really helps take some of that stress away.
Stephen and Raina are an amazing example of exactly how to handle these situations for two reasons. First, they are the most fun-loving, happy, kind people you could ever meet. We say that sincerely. You would hardly ever see either of them without a smile on their faces! Having that kind of attitude puts you two steps ahead already when you are dealing with preparations for your big day. We all know the saying that starts with “The best laid plans of mice and men…” We don’t really need to finish that because we don’t like to talk about things going wrong! But having the right mindset that “something may not work out perfectly and that’s ok” is the best place to start, and Stephen and Raina are sparkling examples of having the right spirit! The second reason they are amazing in this situation is that they were prepared. Raina totally trusted us that we would know what to do if it rained, but she called us anyway a week or so in advance and sweetly asked what that plan might be. Thankfully, we do a lot of planning in advance for these situations and we were able to calm her fears and give her the backup plan just in case!
As it happened, it didn’t actually rain during the time we were shooting on Stephen and Raina’s amazing day. However, the backup plan was so amazing, we decided to stick to it! We also didn’t want the wedding party to have to walk through the grass (part of plan A) since it had rained the day before. As you will see below, plan B worked out beautifully!
We are so thankful to have amazingly sweet people like Stephen and Raina in our lives!! We couldn’t imagine this year without having the chance to be a part of their gorgeous classic wedding! Stephen and Raina, we know you are honeymooning right now, but when you return, we hope you are greeted by these gorgeous images of your truly amazing day and we hope that you love them as much as we do! Love you guys!
