Coleby & Maggie Downtown Engagement Greenville, SC

Over the past 4 years since we quit our jobs to grow a wedding photography business full-time, we have learned so many valuable lessons. We could write a book on the business practices we have learned by experience! And one of the principles we have learned the hard way is generally summed up like this:

“Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”

You’ve probably heard that quote. And it’s absolutely true! Just go back with us to December of 2013 when we both sat down in our boss’s office (we were working together in a small business made up of maybe 12 employees), looked across the desk and told him we were putting in our 2 week notice. Scary? Yes. A little bit insane? Check. But if we had stayed at our comfortably paying jobs, we would have missed out on the incredible experience that has been the last 4 years!!! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

As we were waiting for Coleby & Maggie to arrive at their engagement session, we had an idea. It was not on par with the insanity of both of us quitting our jobs simultaneously. But it did make us feel those “I’m not sure how this will tun out” butterflies. We decided that we would, at some point in the session, ask Coleby & Maggie to switch places with us. Just for a minute. Why? Because we wanted to. We thought they might enjoy being in our shoes for a second!

But we were afraid to ask. We didn’t want them to feel like we were taking time away from their session. We didn’t want them to feel cheated. Those were probably stupid fears, but most fears are, aren’t they? Ultimately, “nothing ventured, nothing gained” won out and we did ask them! And guys, it was better than we imagined! Coleby & Maggie had fun seeing what it’s like to look through the camera instead of being in front of it. But we also gained an appreciation for the poses we put them through in 98 degree heat! After 3 minutes (JUST 3 minutes!!!) of cuddling and doing whatever poses Coleby & Maggie told us to do, we were drenched!!!

At the end of the day, we ventured…and we all gained! Coleby & Maggie were amazing sports and they were the perfect couple to ask! They are so easy-going and we fell in love with them even more! And that’s not even to mention their gorgeous session! Let’s get right to it. Coleby & Maggie, you guys are special. You are incredible. Thank you for trusting us and thank you for being perfect models all day!!!
