My baby sister. The career student. Little miss independent. The doctor. The one we didn’t think would find “the one” until, halfway through her schooling at St. George’s University in Grenada, we got a text, introducing us to Dylan.
Devin met Dylan in Grenada, towards the end of the term in 2021 at Container Park, a popular food village with the medical students attending St. Georges. Devin noticed his Dalmatian, Drako, and immediately headed over to introduce herself to Dylan. (If you know Devin, you know she can’t ignore dogs. Gets her every time.) Drako still gets credit for being the best wingman. But that was it. They parted ways as the term ended. However, at the start of the new year when everyone returned to campus, they met again for the second time, and it just happened to be back at Container Park. This time, Dylan didn’t let more than a few days go by without setting up an official first date. The rest, as they say, is history.
Dylan & Devin have spent most of their relationship in Grenada, and in March of 2023, Dylan took Devin to one of the local beaches to watch the sunset, and there, got down on one knee, and asked her to spend forever with him. And as they thought about their wedding, it just seemed right that they return to the Spice Island to come full circle. And a destination wedding with a small group of family and friends in Grenada couldn’t have been more perfect for them.
But this wedding was different. Not just because it was family. (After all, it’s the most important wedding of our careers to date!) Not just because it was a destination wedding. And not because our kids were in it haha. But because of what this day represented. The story of their lives intertwining is one only God could write. It’s clear to everyone who knows them, and knows both their individual stories and story together. He orchestrated their chance meeting. Perfect timing, always good. And we couldn’t be more grateful to welcome Dylan into our family.
Dylan & Devin chose every detail with intentionality. From the Caribbean island, to the wedding colors, to the people to witness their union. The sea glass color, representing the colors of the water they love so much, where they spent a majority of their time outside of the classroom, whether diving or sailing. Devin wore our grandfather’s wedding band, walking into her new marriage with a tangible reminder of a strong, selfless, loving and God-honoring marriage that our Poppop and Mommom shared together for almost 70 years. Justin, the officiant, played an instrumental role in Dylan’s personal walk with the Lord, and it was only fitting that he witness and then lead in the second biggest decision in Dylan’s life. The family and friends that have seen them through med school, standing beside them and around them. And a week connecting with and enjoying the presence of family before we ended the week in the best way, celebrating the new Mr & Mrs.
Dylan & Devin, this part is for you. We are so proud of you two. Of what you two have accomplished. What you have next waiting for you in Missouri. Of how well you love each other, serve your community, and have balanced all that life has thrown at you. And we love you both dearly. Our children adore you. And can’t stop asking when they get to “go back to Devin & Dylan’s wedding.” Thank you for entrusting your day with us. Documenting your day truly brought us joy, though it was one of the most difficult things I’ve had to do – keep shooting through the tears while watching my baby sister become a wife. We trust this sneak peek brings you right back to that salt-filled air, strong island breeze, and sand-in-between-your-toes moment of becoming husband and wife.
