We could go on and on all day about Kody & Lynsey. We shared a special time with them while we were in Charleston for their engagement session. After their session we went out for ice cream and had a heart to heart chat about marriage. We knew right then and there, we loved Kody & Lynsey and they were a perfect match! However, Lynsey’s dad gave a speech at the reception that said everything there is to say about Kody & Lynsey’s relationship. So we’re going to let him do the talking. Take it away, dad!
“You know it seems like just yesterday you and I took off in the woods behind our house early one Saturday morning hoping to see a deer. You were just little and probably would have rather stayed home to watch cartoons but there you were following me around. I look back at that day and laugh knowing we had no chance to see a deer. You later told mom you had fun crunching in the leaves. We have so many fun memories but the one that will forever stand out in my mind is the day we spent together at the lake, swinging on the rope swing and making mud pies. The more I thought about this memory I began to realize there are valuable lessons from a rope swing.
You have to learn how to overcome fear like I’m having to do right now. It takes a lot of guts to climb up the bank, pull the swing to the highest point and hop on. You know at 15 when you find out you’re going to have a baby, there’s a lot of fear. But the thing about fear is if you face it head on and keep digging, there is always something good waiting on the other side. As I look at you now, so beautiful, so happy, I wouldn’t change a thing.
The second lesson you learn from a rope swing is to trust. There is no guarantee that the rope won’t break. But if you don’t hold on tight and give it all you’ve got, you will never experience the opportunity it provides. Kody, I am trusting you to take care of and provide for Lynsey. I trusted you way too early for my comfort. But you proved yourself worthy. The day you asked me if you could marry Lynsey, it was a no-brainer. I knew you were the one. Lynsey and Kody, you will have to trust each other to reach your full potential of marriage.
The last lesson you learn from the top swing is to let go. This one may be a little harder for me but the thing that makes it bearable is knowing the beautiful, responsible young woman you have become and seeing the man you have chosen. It helps me to know that I must have done something right.
Kody & Lynsey, we are so proud of you. We love you and we hope you enjoy the gift of marriage.”
Is that amazing or what?! Kody & Lynsey, we hope you never forget what marriage is truly about. We love you both and we hope you enjoy reliving your wedding day over and over!
