WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHERS IN LOVE

GREENVILLE, SC & BEYOND

Lens Series Bonus: Secret Weapon

When we got started in photography, we read a lot of information from a lot of different people about what equipment to buy and when. We did some things right and we did some things wrong. And we want YOU to be able to learn from what we did so that you can do it better! Hopefully this will help you if you are just getting started or need a little bit of help wherever you are in your journey! We want to help! You can catch up on our lens series here:

Part 1: Getting Started
Part 2: Going Long
Part 3: Creamy Dreamy
Part 4: Little Details
Part 5: The Whole Picture
Bonus: Secret Weapon

We have told you about every lens we own and use on a daily basis. We hope that helps someone out there making these big decisions right now! To be honest, we were going to end the series there. But we have a secret weapon we wanted to tell you about and we felt like this was the best place to do it. Keep reading!

When we first began shooting weddings we struggled with the basics: exposure, focus, color, composition, posing, etc. We all know the feeling! Don’t give up! It just takes time and practice. And more practice. But if we had to look back and tell you the one thing we did that truly helped us make a big jump in our business, it would have to be this: getting the image correct in camera. What we mean by that is that when we take an image, we want that image to be as close to a final product as possible before we even touch it. This was not always something we thought was possible. When we started out, it took us weeks and weeks of editing to finish one wedding. And, as we quickly realized, that was not a good service to our couples for several reasons.

First, they were not getting their images quickly. Their excitement about their wedding images slowly faded as they got into “real life.” Second, we weren’t able to use that time to do little things to make their experience better. We couldn’t take time for educating ourselves. We couldn’t take time to get the rest WE needed to be able to be the best we could be for our couples on their wedding day. We just felt that we weren’t able to give our amazing couples what they deserved.

Obviously we needed a solution. Something that would allow us to turn our images around quickly and make them even better. Then we took a class from our friends Zach & Jody Gray. They talked about how much they love using a specific tool that allows them to get color and exposure correct in camera so that they didn’t have to spend so much time editing. It was a tool called the Expodisc. Holy cow! That was exactly what we needed!

The Expodisc has changed our lives forever. Here’s how it works. It’s like using a light meter that measures the light that is hitting your subject so that you can put the exact right settings into your camera. Except in this case, your camera IS the light meter. You know how sometimes your images come out looking too blue or too orange? The Expodisc allows us to take a reading of the light and input those settings quickly so that every image has the correct and accurate color and exposure. How easy is that!!?

Now to be completely honest, we were afraid of it at first. It took us a long time to really learn to use it. We are still learning today! But if you are a photographer and you are struggling with your editing being slow and difficult, the Expodisc is for you! You can even ask us how to use it and we will help you! There is absolutely no reason not to try this tool today. It is our biggest game-changer for our business yet and would never shoot a wedding or engagement session without our Expodisc!
