He held more tightly to his bag as they taxied slowly down the runway.

Nathan knew the contents were life-changing at very least. He felt the rumble of the wheels on the pavement. His hands perspired, though not from a fear of flying. Not from a fear at all. But from anticipation.

He had cleared customs less than an hour ago, a task not as as easy as he had expected. But that hurdle was just one in a long track in front of him. He relaxed slightly now that the plane was in the air and climbing. Bag in hand. Seat belt securely fastened. Girl of his dreams by his side. Paris-bound.

Their US Airways flight touched down at Charles de Gaulle Airport on Friday. It was noon. There was plenty of time for site-seeing, just as they had hoped! Nathan’s plan was in motion and now the search for “the perfect moment” was all he could think about. He still held tightly to the precious backpack. As Friday’s site-seeing progressed, excitement of vacationing in Europe quickly turned into a lot of walking. Nathan began to see Lori’s energy fade. Friday was not going to be the day.

On Saturday, Nathan’s updated plan included a visit to the Eiffel Tower for dinner. But first, a quick walk around the Tower could prove to be the moment he was looking for. As they got closer, Lori’s choice of high heels became a small dent in the plan. She was ready to go inside for dinner. Plan revision quickly went into effect once again. Dinner inside the Eiffel Tower would be perfect! Nathan’s hands shook slightly as he reached for the box in his pocket. This was it! At the same moment there were sounds of clapping. All attention was on the table right behind Nathan & Lori. Apparently getting engaged at your dinner table at the Eiffel Tower is a popular choice. Square one.

Operation: “I have to get this ring out of my pocket and onto this girl’s finger” was now in full swing!

After dinner Nathan & Lori walked out to the balcony overlooking one of the most beautiful landscapes in Paris. Nathan gave his phone to a passerby and asked for a photo. Lori looked at the camera and flashed her amazing smile. Nathan was right by her side.

And then he wasn’t.

Nathan was down on one knee beside her asking the most important question he had ever asked. He had found his perfect moment at long last. It was worth every second.

As they gazed out on Paris a newly-engaged couple, Nathan held Lori as tightly and yet as gently as ever.
